75 organisations de santé européennes ont adressé une lettre ouverte à la ministre française de l’Education nationale, Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, pour la soutenir dans sa double démarche de protection des élèves à l’égard des risques d’attentat et du tabagisme, annonce le Comité national de Lutte contre le Tabagisme (voir Lmdt des 14, 11 et 9 septembre).
Les signataires de la lettre rappellent que « la France est considérée comme un modèle du fait des récentes décisions en matière de lutte contre le tabagisme adoptées dans le cadre du programme national de réduction du tabagisme et de la loi de modernisation du système de santé. Toutes ces mesures pourraient être mises à mal en cas de réintroduction du tabagisme dans les lycées qui serait le symbole d’un recul majeur ».
Représentant la diversité des acteurs engagés dans la lutte contre le tabagisme dans toute l’Europe, « ces structures tirent la sonnette d’alarme contre les dangers d’une éventuelle dérogation à l’interdiction de fumer dans les lycées français. Elles invitent le gouvernement à accompagner les proviseurs chargés d’éviter les attroupements extérieurs pendant les interclasses, tout en ne laissant pas fumer dans l’enceinte de l’établissement ».
